Romanticism

Romanticism was a movement in art, an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual that originated in Europe 

during 19th century and in most areas was at its peak in the approximate period from 1800 to 1850. 

Romanticism was characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism as well as glorification 

of all the past and nature, preferring the medieval rather than the classical. It was partly a reaction to the  

Industrial Revolution,the aristocratic social and political norms of the Age of Enlightenment, and the scientific rationalization of nature.

With its emphasis on the imagination and emotion, Romanticism emerged as a response 

to the disillusionment with the Enlightenment values of reason and order in the aftermath of the French Revolution 

of 1789. Romanticsm has characteristics :

1.  Imagination 

Generally, imagination is the power or process mental images and ideas, beside that 

imagination also has awareness, strength, power, possessed by humans to create a picture

image that is mental, and hidden.

2.  Intuition

From KBB intuition is a power or ability to know or comprehend feed on something 

without thinking or studied; whisper of the Heart; impulse. every human being 

has the intuition that has become part of the human self. Intuition is the term for the ability to understand 

something without going through reasoning and intellect. 

It seems that understanding is suddenly coming from another world and out of consciousness

3.  Idealism

idealism is a belief in something that is considered correct by the individual concerned 

with the source of experience, education, culture, and customs. Idealism in philosophyis 

a metaphysical view of the world or who say that the basic reality consist of, 

or a very close relationship withidea, mind or soul. 

4. Inspiration

Inspiration is the spark creative ideas because human beings experience a light in his mind 

and the time and place rarely recognize, 

due to the results of the process of self-development . 

5. Individuality

The individual comes from the Greek word "individium" which means "undivided". 

Individuals are limited unity that is as individual human beings rather than as whole human beings. 

Individual has characteristics have a mind and self. 

Where people could establish the fact, the interpretation of the situation, 

set the action from the outside and inside of him. 

Romanticism tended to regard satire as something unworthy of serious attention, a prejudice still influential today.Romanticism was relatively late in developing in French literature, even more so than in the visual arts. The 18th-century precursor to Romanticism, the cult of sensibility, had become associated with the Ancien regime, and the French Revolution had been more of an inspiration to foreign writers than those experiencing it at first hand. There are 2 books and be a movie  which told about French Revolution , those are Le Miserable and Oliver Twist.
